Exploring the Meaning of Sun Signs
Meaning of Sun Signs
Symbolically, the sun deals with themes like: life, vitality, force, action and in-your-face energy. It is the center of our entire solar system, so many astrologers would say our sun sign is the center of our personality.
I’d have to argue placing one sign (like moon sign vs. sun sign) in a higher position of importance over another (they all contribute to the whole that is us).
But, the sun is an undeniably major factor in the stage of our lives. But, it’s undeniable..because of the monumental effects of the sun, our sun sign personality and tendencies will tend to be equally mammoth.
Explanation on How We Get Our Sun Signs
Firstly, it’s important to know the earth moves through all 12 zodiac signs. Check out the illustration above. Hopefully this diagram offers a helpful visual that walks you through the following explanation:
At the moment of your birth, the position of the earth in relation to the sun indicates Taurus (in this example) would be your sun sign. This is because your first physical foot print (your birth) is aligned with the path of the sun (the light gray arrow illustrates this solar path).
When contemplating your sun sign, bear in mind this is the active part of your personality. Just like the sun shows itself with blaring intensity, the personality traits we show people most are those shown through our sun signs.
Where moon signs convey our shadow selves; personality traits shown through our sun signs are bold and clear.
By learning more about the meaning of sun signs we know more about our proclivities, and we shine an astrological light on our behaviors as well as the behaviors of others.

You will see differences in dates for sun signs. To explain these differences I hand over the reins to Joanna Martine Woolfolk because she phrases a lot better than I can. This quote is taken directly from her book: The Only Astrology Book You’ll Ever Need She says this about date differences:
“…dates are not exact. Some years the sun will enter or leave a sign one or two days before or after the dates you see published. This is because the Sun does not travel at the exact same speed year in and year out. There are slight changes in its forward motion due to the position of the earth. Also, at certain times of the year the sun travels faster than at other times (for example, the sun is traveling four minutes faster per day in early January than in early June).”

Moon Signs and Meanings
Moon signs represent proclivities and vast potentials within us that are often obscured by a murky veil of midnight in our awareness. Where our sun sign represents active principals of ourselves, our moon signs are far more subtle and elusive. Get more about moon sign meanings here.

Astrology has been around for as long as humankind started observing the activities in the heavens. To compare the compare the movement of the planets and stars to our own human lives is a brilliant (and ancient) concept. Get more information about astrology here.
