The Nuts and Bolts of Symbolic Meanings and Living a Symbolic Life
I got asked this question the other day….
“Avia, are you preaching this stuff? Is this worship? Is this a religion?”
Great question. My knee-jerk response is a resounding NO!!
Living a symbolic life doesn’t mean we denounce our faith, our religion or our spirituality. Far from it. It means incorporating spirituality into every corpuscle of life.
Am I proselytizing a spiritual way of life? Am I trying to substitute a religion for symbolic ideology? Another resounding NO!!
Symbolism is a divine language. The divine (the higher power{s} of your own understanding) speaks a symbolic language. Why? Because our minds think on a symbolic wavelength. We are hard-wired to seek and cipher symbolism because it is the language of our species, the language of the universe, and ultimately, the language of the divine.
Here’s an example: Let’s say you encountered a hawk on your way to work. You were astounded and inspired by its beauty. It really caught your attention. The divinity within you might be compelled to ask what that’s all about. What does that mean? Is there a message to that? Why did that hawk catch my attention?
“Our visions will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.”
~ Dr. Carl Jung
You live your life. That means you are in charge of interpreting the symbolic meanings cropping up in your awareness.
The answer to all these questions is symbolic, and deeply spiritual. By seeking the underlying meaning of symbolic phenomenon that catches our attention, we are actively engaging in the essence of creation, spirit and yeah, the divine.
Stuff demands our attention. That which commands our attention is noteworthy. The notes we take are easily digested on a symbolic level. Our symbolic revelations ultimately come from our Source, from Universe, from Spirit, from the divine as we understand It.
I don’t have ownership on this way of thinking or living. I don’t have a brand or a patent. Spirit presents Itself in ways that insist on capturing our attention. Those ways are typically symbolic.
No, it’s not worship. No, it’s not religion. Staying in tune with the symbolic dialogue of the divine should, ideally, dovetail into our preexisting beliefs. It doesn’t matter if you are Christian or Buddhist, vegetarian or a bungee jumper.
At the end of the day, I’m not selling a belief system. I’m not trying to convert anybody. I’m just sharing concepts that may offer a broader view and a deeper connection to our world and our universe. I hope you enjoyed this article on living a symbolic life.
As always, thanks for reading.
